Winter skincare wellness

When the mercury dips so does the moisture in our skin. We normally blame the harsh winds and low temperature for our dry skin, and to some extent these are responsible. The truth is, indoor heating systems, hot showers, and reduced water intake are all equally to blame for our winter skin woes. It is natural to not feel quite so thirsty during winter, but remember, less water intake will contribute to dry dehydrated skin in the winters. These few months need special care inside out- if our skin is to remain healthy and hydrated.

My AM routine. Ever C Vitamin C serum by Salve Pharmaceuticals is available at all chemists

My PM routine

I have dry to combination skin. So, I add facial oils to my day and night time routine. As I wrote in my last post, this works wonders for times when you just have to have some extra hydration. Also, it’s a good idea to invest in a good exfoliator for face and body to get rid of dead skin cells. By exfoliating, your skin will absorb oils and deep moisturisers better. You don’t have to exfoliate everyday just twice a week is more than enough.

My body-care essentials

Healthy skin has a direct correlation to healthy diet. During winter your skin needs extra moisture, so it’s important to add healthy fats to your diet which are great for overall well being and skin health. These include nuts, organic oils, organic ghee, omega3, avocado, oily fish, sweet potatoes, nut butters, eggs with yolk, chia seeds, and flaxseeds, Healthy fats are good for the immune system, metabolism and they enhance energy. Omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation. I take a super green powder every day throughout the year and definitely during winter. It strengthens the immune system, improves digestion, boosts energy and almost guarantees healthier skin. It also reduces inflammation- especially for people who suffer from sinus issues. I make sure I have 2 -3 litres of water and I also have 2 to 3 cups of green tea every day. I love my turmeric almond milk for immunity and it does lead to glowing beautiful skin.

All these food products are available at Nature’s Basket. The coconut oil & organic ghee are available under different names.
