Substitutes for Soy Sauce, Common Table Salt and Cheese

We like to cook healthy. And that starts with replacing ingredients with healthy alternatives – in a way that you don’t have to compromise on the taste.

Here are my 3 favorite alternatives to three common ingredients used by any Indian home – cheese, soy sauce and common table salt.

Bragg Liquid Aminos

We love condiments. And soy sauce is one that pervades so many cuisines – most are rendered ‘taste-less’ without it. In fact, it is generously used in Indian homes when one wants to add a Chinese twist to desi savories.

Sure, it has its own unique taste, but it’s a strict -no for a lot of people who are allergic to wheat, its primary ingredient. A healthier alternative is the Bragg Liquid Aminos, which is made from pure soybeans and purified water. It contains 16 essential amino acids.

I have been adding it to my soups, salads, gravies and dips – for a long time now, and it gives an excellent punch. Besides, it is gluten-free, non-fermented, non-GMO, and contains no added salt and preservatives.

Nutritional Yeast

You never thought there could be an alternative to cheese, isn’t it? Well, there is one, and it is healthier too. Nutritional Yeast (inactive yeast) is different from the yeast we use to ferment food. This one contains proteins, B vitamins, amino acids and minerals, and is highly nutritious.

These days I’m using Bragg Premium , nutritional yeast seasoning. It is gluten-free, non-GMO; low in fat, sugar-free, and preservative-free. It has a lovely cheesy, nutty flavor that you can add to your salads, soups, curries and stews. You can even use it in your bakes, eggs and dips.

Pink Rock Salt (Sendha Namak)

Pink Rock Salt I’ve been using for years! And the one by Organic India is really good. Our regular Store-bought table salt is heavily processed and contains synthetic chemicals. It is better to go for the natural ‘Organic Pink Rock Salt’, which is clean, nutritious and promotes good health. It is rich in over 84 minerals, including potassium, iron, magnesium, calcium, and so on. I use it as table salt too. The health benefits are plenty –

• Helps absorb nutrients

• Good for digestive health

• Prevents muscle cramps

• Regulates blood pressure

• Increases energy levels

• Promotes good sleep

• Balances electrolytes

P.S. – Please remember, moderation

is the key.

All of the above are easily available in health stores in India and online.

Love,

Shagun
